Late again. Surprise, surprise! Little Spencer turned one month old over a week ago. The first month has flown by and our little monkey munchie (she has to have her own nickname, although we are having a way-too-easy time calling her the same things we did AL) chicken is growing like a weed. In her first month, she gained over 2 pounds, which was GREAT! The pediatrician gave her a great report and said she was perfect – very alert and on track with all developments that she should be having at this age (although, I have no idea what those are because she sleeps most of the day, cries every once in awhile, and is eating every three hours (going four . . . sometimes five . . . at night)). Anyway, this is all “perfectly normal” according to the doctor. Although we thought the waking every four/five hours at night wasn’t great, the doctor was very impressed by that. We, however, are ready for 8 or 9. Our little chicken is more like a rooster that you could set a clock to – no matter whether I feed her at 11 or 12:30 as the last feeding, she wakes up between 3:30-4:30 every night and then between 7:30 and 8 every morning like clockwork. Anyway, we are not giving up yet – Anne Louise became the best baby sleeper ever, and we are doing everything the same with baby sister. Of course, each child is different, so Spencer may give us a total run for our money and be a total payback for all the easy nights we got with AL. Other than the sleeping issues, Spencer has been a breeze. She rarely cries, and when she does – its because she is hungry or needs a diaper changed. She loves to sit in her swing and watch things in the den (usually Anne Louise or the ceiling fan), and so far, she doesn’t protest tummy time --- in fact, she oftentimes falls asleep (maybe because the “Kittily” that Joan gave her is so soft)!
Here are Spencer’s One Month Stats:
Height/Weight/Head: Height: 21.5 inches (80%) Weight: 10 lbs, 6 ozs (75-80%) Head: 39 cm (80%)
Bedtime: 11/12ish is when we put her in the crib for the night and let her wake up on her own (before that, we wake her every 2.5-3 hours to eat). She usually sleeps 4-5 hours before waking up, when we feed her again and put her straight back in her crib. She likes to wake up before Anne Louise (haha) around 7:30 0r 8. That’s when we start the 3 hour schedule rolling.
Favorite Activity: Sleeping during the day. This often makes it hard to keep her on her 3 hours feeding schedule, but I’m willing to try any trick in the book!
Biggest Milestone: We THINK she has smiled at us several times. Also, she has started following things with her eyes, which is neat to watch!
Here is my favorite picture from month 1 – it is Anne Louise (completely unprovoked) reaching over in the car to hold baby sister’s hand. PRECIOUS!
