Christmas 2010–A photo essay

DSC_0116Readers, beware.  There are lots of pictures below.  LOTS.  Like an annoying amount.  We have been so busy getting ready for (and enjoying) the holidays, surviving our SECOND snow storm of the season, and celebrating birthdays that I still haven’t written about Christmas.  I figured what better way to summarize our holiday than to post a billion pictures showing you what we did.  Forgive me for the lack of prose or narration, but seeing as how its 3 weeks past Christmas, I figured something is better than nothing!  I also figured that since this is our family’s online scrapbook, I better make sure to include these pictures so they don’t get lost in the dark shadows of my hard drive, never to see the light of day . . . or a printer.

Christmas Eve Dinner with the Wilsons (after church of course) – recap: AL loves to wear a bib, loves to open presents, loves to say “What is it? What is it?” while opening them, loves to wears PJs to Christmas Dinner so as to preserve the Christmas dress for the next night in Va Beach (which she never ended up wearing), and loves her cousin Hill.  Spencer loves to sleep like an angel the whole time, which results in no pictures in the matching Christmas dress.  The rest of the family loves to eat Ross’s luscious beef tenderloin, mac & cheese, and a vegetable that escapes me right now (one, because the tenderloin and macaroni and cheese were so amazing, and two, because its 3 weeks after Christmas, and I guess, three, because it was a vegetable).DSC_0011DSC_0013DSC_0015DSC_0023DSC_0030DSC_0047DSC_0054DSC_0057DSC_0059DSC_0064DSC_0065

Christmas Morning at Our House – recap: Santa came.  We had to wake up our sleeping beauty monkey who was too scared to come in the den because she thought Santa Claus was actually still there.  Once she opened her eyes, she said with GREAT excitement, “Wagon like Will-Ba!” (translation, a wagon like her birthday twins Will and Barrett (aka the “triplets”), which Anne Louise SAID she told Santa she wanted).  AL also loved her kitchen, which she still greets with a “Good mornin’ kitchen” every time she sees it in the morning.  Lots of other little goodies in stockings and from Nana and CC, and lots of time just sitting in the wagon.  She ate her breakfast in that thing . . . and I’m not exaggerating.DSC_0070DSC_0071DSC_0072DSC_0073DSC_0075

Rest of Christmas Day – recap: We spent 2 hours packing for our (at least) 6 hour trek to Virginia Beach IN THE SNOW.  Well, it didn’t really snow the entire drive, just parts, ok, ok – just one part – it was more of a race against the snow.  But we took LOTS of shortcuts to stay ahead of the radar and arrived (barely) in Va Beach just in time for the snow to start AND for Christmas dinner with the Magees. Sadly, we didn’t get any pictures from that night.  Sadly, my precious girls never changed into their precious matching Christmas dresses and I never got my precious picture of them.  This, however, should come as no surprise to anyone that knows us and the chaos that constantly surrounds our family.  Needless to say, Christmas was nothing less than wonderful with all our family.

The day (actually, “days” – plural) after Christmas – recap: we had more “knowing” (aka “snow”) as Anne Louise calls it.  In fact, it didn’t stop “knowing” until TWO days after Christmas.  Patrick measured about ten inches.  The Lord provides, however, and just up the road (literally), BJs was selling kids snow suits and snow jackets.  Cousin Harper was in town, and it was all we could do to keep those children bundled up because they LOVED the snow and cried when it was time to come in.  There was lots of giggling, piggy tails, and hugs.  Uncle Kevin won AL and Harper’s “Man-of-the-Year” award for building a snow slide.  Spencer got lots of time resting, being held, being spoiled, and more time resting.  Per usual, she was perfect.DSC_0076DSC_0085DSC_0088DSC_0089DSC_0091DSC_0092DSC_0093DSC_0097DSC_0101DSC_0105DSC_0107DSC_0109DSC_0111DSC_0115DSC_0116DSC_0120DSC_0122DSC_0123DSC_0125DSC_0126DSC_0128DSC_0132DSC_0147DSC_0151DSC_0152DSC_0156DSC_0167DSC_0172DSC_0181DSC_0182DSC_0183DSC_0185DSC_0194DSC_0206DSC_0214DSC_0217DSC_0218DSC_0219DSC_0220DSC_0230DSC_0003DSC_0005DSC_0007DSC_0009DSC_0014DSC_0018DSC_0021DSC_0026DSC_0032DSC_0051DSC_0052DSC_0072DSC_0171

New Years’ Eve – recap: Aunt Gogo and Kris were in town.  We hung around the house and ate sinfully good food (thanks to Joan).  DSC_0081DSC_0082DSC_0083DSC_0089DSC_0093DSC_0096

It was a great visit that unfortunately resulted in too much eating and not enough picture taking.  But it was the perfect way to cap off the holidays!   Happy 2011!!
