I Wuv You Baby Sisser!

Patrick was taking Anne Louise to school the other day, and as they were walking out the door, he said, tell Mama bye-bye.  Instead of saying bye-bye, she said “I wuv you baby sisser.”  It was so sweet!  Since Spencer has been home, Anne Louise has certainly gone through an adjustment period.  All in all, however, everyone is doing great.  AL LOVES to help when we are changing Spencer by handing us diapers and wipes, and Anne Louise often walks around putting her finger to her mouth saying, “Shh.  Baby Sisser sleeping.”  It is precious.  She’s definitely had her “mine” moments, including the first day we brought Spencer home from the hospital when Anne Louise proceeded to say that everything, including the changing table and crib, were “mines. mines.”  The four-hour crying fit that followed definitely proved AL was gonna have a tough time sharing not only her attention, but also her stuff.  Besides that bumpy first day, she has been a wonderful big sister.  This past weekend, we let her hold Spencer . . . twice.  Anne Louise LOVED it and was so sweet with her Baby Sisser.

As for Spencer, she is doing WONDERFUL!  She has consistently been gaining weight.  At six days old, she was 8 lbs, 1 oz, which was ALMOST back up to her birth weight of 8 lbs, 2 ozs (side note – the doctors think the scale in the OR where Spencer was delivered was off when it said 8 lbs, 9 ozs – that night in the nursery, she was only 8 lbs 2 ozs.  Everyone agreed that she could not have possibly lost 7 ounces in 8 hours, so the pediatrician is using the 8 lbs 2 oz weight as her birth weight for growth purposes.  The Birth Certificate and everything else, however, says 8 lbs 9 ozs.).  Apparently, it normally takes 10-14 days to accomplish regaining the birth weight, so Spencer had a GREAT first doctor appointment.  She had another weight check at 12 days old, and she was up to 8 lbs, 10.5 ozs.  The pediatrician’s office was SO impressed.  Since I’m nursing, its hard to make sure that Spencer is eating enough, so this was a great reassurance that everything is going well(certainly, a welcome change from the tough time we had with Anne Louise during her first few weeks).  Spencer is a great sleeper (she gets that from her parents – ha!), and we are enjoying her 4 and 5 hour stints in between feedings that she’ll give us most nights.  She really is a precious baby, and while I’m glad she’s healthy, I wish she would stay my teeny-tiny baby forever! 

FINALLY, we are now a double-stroller family.  Actually, make that double, double-stroller family.  Thanks to a VERY generous gift from Grandmother (Harriett), we bought a used jogging stroller that holds AL and “baby sisser’s seat” (a BOB that is so unbelievably easy to use) AND a used double umbrella stroller (a Maclaren, that is AWESOME).  Anne Louise is obsessed with “stroller rides,” so before Patrick even got the jogging stroller out of the car, Anne Louise was already harassing him to take her for a ride.  He took both girls for a spin around the ‘hood, and apparently, Spencer and Anne Louise REALLY approve of the new ride.
