Anne Louise, today we ask this blessing upon you, that you may be blessed by the direction of Christ. That in addition you may be willing to accept the direction of myself and your mother, as we actively acknowledge ourselves as sinners, and seek to guide you to individually make the decision to follow Christ Jesus our Lord. That you my look to the Lord for guidance in all you do and hope to do. That you may be loved, learn to love others, but so importantly, teach others how to love as Christ loves you. We ask that the Lord would bless you with talents and abilities that will ultimately glorify him, and we ask that the Lord would guide us in making sure your gifts and talents are realized and rounded. Anne Louise, most of all, we pray you would feel the presence of the Lord in your life, much as we did the morning we thought we might lose you before you were even born. We ask that the Lord please mold us to prepare your heart to lead you to eventually make the most critical decision of all, to follow and enter into a personal relationship with Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. (Patrick read this blessing in front of the church, as well as the Bible verse we chose above, at Anne Louise’s baptism on November 1, 2009, at Uptown Church.)
Anne Louise was so good during the service, and during her actual baptism, she stole the show by trying to play with the Pastor’s microphone. It was adorable. After the baptism, we took her to the nursery to change out of her BEAUTIFUL handmade, heirloom dress from Aunt Denise (whose masterpiece was nothing short of breathtaking . . . or a miracle, since AL was a little larger than planned for her baptism, but Mastress-Seamstress-Martha-Stewart-Denise-Wilson managed to alter it accordingly) and her two necklaces – one from Granny and one from Grandmother [Harriett], as well as her “L” pin that my dad’s aunt Louise used to wear. AL was dressed in tradition from head to toe! After the service, we had everyone back to our house for some food and fellowship! We had a great time, but Anne Louise was so tired (no nap in the morning) that she missed out on the fun (and WE missed out on the pictures we planned to take with AL in her dress!). When she woke up from her nap, most people were gone, so we put her in her other “special occasion dress” from Aunt Joan for a little photo opportunities!
It was a great day, and we were so blessed that so many family members made the long trip to be there for such an important part in Anne Louise’s life.
